Maintenance Task:  Inspect and clean microwave

How do you inspect and clean a microwave?

The following maintenance tasks are recommended for inspecting and cleaning of your microwave oven:

  1. Clean inside cavity with mild detergent and water.  Rinse and wipe with paper towel.  If spots seem dried on, then boil water in a glass cup for a few minutes and let the steam help loosen the soiled area.  Do not use a scouring pad, steel wool, or other abrasives.

  2. Clean around the door and door seal, and make sure door closes tightly.

  3. If your unit has a turntable, then be sure to clean underneath it.

  4. To remove odors, boil a solution of a cup of water and several tablespoons of lemon juice in the microwave for 5-7 minutes.

  5. Clean grease and dust from around the air vents.

  6. Check inside light bulb, clean or replace as necessary.
